When it can't be towed
A broken spring hanger or coupler makes a trailer unsafe to tow, even to a shop. The welding truck comes to you instead, at home, in a campground or wherever it broke down.
Spring hangers crack where the frame flexes, usually starting at the edge of the factory weld, and they often go unnoticed until the trailer sags. I grind the hanger back to clean steel, reweld it and add plate on each side. The plate spreads the load past the old weak spot, so the hanger is far less likely to crack there again. Every other hanger gets checked while I'm under the trailer, since they carry the same stress.
Hitches are a safety weld. If one lets go, the trailer comes off, so every hitch gets a full-strength structural weld. Steel and aluminum trailers are both welded. Aluminum needs its own setup, covered on the aluminum welding page.

- Spring hangersThe most common trailer call. The cracked hanger is ground back, rewelded and plated on both sides, and every other hanger gets checked.
- Cracked couplers and tonguesA cracked coupler is cut off and replaced, never welded over. Tongues are repaired, or extended when the trailer needs more length.
- Suspension mounts and bushingsMounts that tore loose are rewelded and plated. One RV needed a spring hanger rebuilt plus 12 new bushings and wet bolts.
- RV jacks and bumpersStabilizing jacks, leveling jacks and rear bumpers rewelded or replaced, at home or in the campground.

- PrepRust, paint and grease come off first, and cracked or thin metal gets cut out. A weld is only as strong as the metal under it.

Common questions
Can I drive on a cracked spring hanger?
I wouldn't tow on it. Send a photo of the hanger and the location, and I'll come to it.
Should a cracked coupler be welded?
No. A cracked coupler gets replaced, as coupler manufacturers advise. I cut the old one off and weld the new one on.
Can you weld a trailer hitch?
Yes. Hitches, receivers and couplers, repaired or built to fit. One example is a receiver built into a fifth wheel's rear bumper for an e-bike carrier.
Do you fix aluminum trailers?
Yes, including aluminum travel trailer frames.
Do you work on RVs and campers?
Yes. Spring hangers, jacks, bumpers and suspension brackets. I once drove two hours to repair a truck camper for a family on a road trip.
